Guy Clark is amazing! He is a Master Storyteller and a beast on the guitar when he wants to cut loose. I really want Y'all to react to his song "The Guitar". He definitely cuts loose in it and shows what a beast on guitar he is! Another great song of his is "The Randall Knife". He paints such a vivid picture with his words and delivery, for me it's like watching a full length movie in 5 minutes!

One of my absolute favourite songwriters. Check out a song called the guitar. Great story and it tends to feature some amazing guitar work by his buddy Ferlin. Another one that’s worth checking out is the last gunfighter ballad. It’s another one that’s a little bit minimal but again a great song which was recorded😅 by Johnny Cash. I’m not actually sure which of the two wrote it.

I'm just catching up on you guys channel and this is the only Eric Church song I've found. I'm not going to request a certain song but I'm gonna tell you a little about him. I won't go into a ton of detail but just hit the highlights. The first big break he got was he was hired to open for Rascall Flatts. It didn't go well... He was eventually fired from the tour for playing too loud and too long. (17 minutes was what they gave him, if I remember correctly.) So he got fired and afterwards he put on his own tour following Rascal Flatts around on their tour and finding any little bar or venue that would have him and start his show right after the RF concert ended. After this he was basically black balled from the country music scene. So he would go on playing any place that would hire him. One day he got a phone call from a prominent musician that told him, I heard your album and I'd like you to open for me on my tour. He also said he'd give them 45 minutes to play. That musician was Bob Seger. Back to the Rascall Flatts situation. After they fired Eric they hired a young female singer to replace him. She called Eric and asked them basically if there were any hard feelings about her taking his spot. He told her no, they're gonna love you and you're gonna do great. The only thing he asked her was that she give him her first gold record. Time went on and she did what he asked her to do. She gave him her first gold record signed "Thanks for playing too loud and too long, Taylor Swift. The record is now displayed in the country music hall of fame. There's other times where he has bucked the system but I've rambled on enough. About his music one of his guitar players is Jeff Cease who was an original member of the Black Crowes. From what I understand that when he records an album he has the whole band in the studio playing together while they record so most of his songs have a "live feel" to them. I can see how the sudden drop in voice could “bother” someone as the rest of the song is in a higher level so the drop sort of sticks out. I pick up on vibrato easily and if I detect it, I can’t focus much on the song. A few of Sara Even’s songs do that such as “A Little Bit Stronger”.

A lot of Guy Clark's songs are just raw emotion, with every word carefully chosen for effect. Maybe the only songwriter I can think of who chose words as carefully was Leonard Cohen. Sometimes I find him hard to listen to just because of the intentioinal lack of comfort, for want of a better way to put it. "The Randall Knife" is another song of his I'd recommend, that's if anything even rawer than this.

Guy Clark was a great songwriter, and this is one of my favorite songs of his. Not a great performance though.

I like his style of writing and I like his style of singing. Simplicity and meaning! The song Randall Knife would be another great story for your ears and hearts!

this was Guy Clark...master song writer and story teller...you have no idea the impact he had on the folk/Americana genre...along with John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith and more...well worth a deep dive.

Oh hey again guys. I forgot to mention something earlier. I.W. Harper got a tongue in cheek songwriting credit once. Merle Haggard was doing a concert and was introducing a new song. He said this is brand new. In fact we just finished it on the way up here on the bus. Me and Jim Beam and IW Harper. That was Merle. Guy wrote a song called Black Diamond Strings and there is a video of him singing it with EmmyLou and they mention IW Harper in the chorus, but they refer to it as 1 (one) W Harper. I'm guessing as a joke because a lot of people thought thats what it was called. The song mentions a family called the Crowells. Rodney Crowell is a country music star as well. He was a member of Emmy's band back in the day and also was Johnny Cash's son-in-law for a few years. really talented musician, singer and writer in his own right too.
